 It's The Law!

CURFEW:

The laws state that it is unlawful for any person under 17 years of age to be present at or upon any public assembly, building, place, vehicle, street or highway within the state unless accompanied and supervised by a parent, legal guardian or responsible person at least 18 years of age with the written approval of the parents. A police officer may require immediate verification of such a statement to determine the authenticity of the document.

HOURS OF CURFEW:

  • Between 12:01 am to 6:00 am Saturday
  • Between 12:01 am to 6:00 am Sunday
  • Between 11:00 PM on Sunday to Thursday, inclusive and 6:00 am on the following day.

EXCEPTION TO THESE HOURS:

When the person is engaged in the performance of a business or occupation which the laws of the state authorize a person less than 17 years of age to perform.

The responsibility of proving parental approval or lawful occupation is upon the person in question and is subject to being verified by the police.

DRIVER’S LICENSE & CURFEW:

Any person who operates a motor vehicle while in violation of the Curfew laws also commits the offense of operating a motor vehicle WITHOUT A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE. While the offense of curfew is a violation of both State law and Village ordinance, driving without a valid license violates State law which affects your driving record. Both violations require a court appearance with one of the person's parents being present in court.
